Waterproofing Your Flat Roof System

If you want to get the most out of your new flat roof, you must have a waterproofing system in place. As a result, the structure will be protected for a long time. The decking and insulation of the roof will rot and decay when exposed to the outside elements, significantly reducing its lifespan. Consequently, the roof might need to be repaired, or a new one may have to be installed.

In general, there are three main methods for waterproofing flat roofs. Based on the structure being weatherproofed, the type of environment, roof size, and budget, we may decide to use one of these approaches.
Using Reinforced Bitumen Membranes to Weatherproof a Flat Roof

A reinforced bitumen membrane is the most commonly used material for waterproofing flat roofs. It consists of applying the material in two or three layers across the entire surface of the roof. Afterwards, hot bitumen binds them together.

A bitumen coating is then combined with a polyester carrier to produce a waterproof material. In a cold flat roof design, this can be laid over the insulation (on a warm flat roof) or the structural deck.
